Johannesburg - North West premier Thandi Modise will pronounce on a Bodibe traditional leadership claim soon, the provincial government said on Monday.

Spokesman Lesiba Moses Kgwele said a decision by the Commission on Traditional Leadership Disputes and Claims was expected within two weeks.

The claim was lodged by Keorapetse Prince Motlhako, who joined the Democratic Alliance at the weekend.

Kgwele said: “Motlhako lodged a claim to be recognised as a senior traditional leader of the Barolong Boo Modiboa on June 3, 2013.”

He said the Modiboa clan in Bodibe near Mahikeng was currently not recognised as a traditional community.

The village was under the authority of Kgosi Rapulana Victor Matlaba of the Barolong Boo Tau Rapulana.

The commission was established to restore the dignity and integrity of traditional communities and the institution of traditional leadership across the country.

Kgwele said the North West committee on such disputes had since its inception finalised investigations into over 110 traditional leadership disputes and claims.

DA leader Helen Zille welcomed Matlhoko to the party on Sunday.

The Sowetan reported that he told Zille that his clan, that was trying to settle a number of land and mineral rights claims, had been left out in the cold by the ANC.

Last year, Motlhako and five headmen asked DA MP Hendrik Schmidt to help them settle the claims.

The progress made through Schmidt's help prompted him to join the DA.
