Pretoria - Voting in Tshwane got of to a chilly start as mist hung heavily on the roads of Bronkhorstspruit and frost covered the ground at many a sports field in the Moot and Pretoria East.

At Toutrek Park in Rietfontein a queue had formed from well before 7am with people wrapped up against the cold, determined to make their mark early and enjoy the rest of their day.

Among the first to vote in the capital was Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe who had joined the queue, not wanting any special treatment. Those who were in the front of the queue at the Colbyn polling station took just five minutes to make their mark.

There were a couple of reports of problems including a station without ballot boxes at an informal settlement west of Atteridgeville and an ID scanner not working at the Brooklyn Primary School.

However, IEC Gauteng elections manager Masego Sheburi said there were bound to be a few glitches in the first hour of voting but these were being attended too.
