Johannesburg - Meet the ANC Youth League’s new “Julius and Floyd”.

Both unemployed, they have never before held a leadership position but Thekiso Khanye and Lebohang Mokoena – who have declared themselves president and chief lobbyist respectively – want to be the next powerful youth duo at the helm of the ANC Youth League.

The two men from Sedibeng, Zone 8, south of Joburg, claim to be ANC members and boldly promise to take on the league’s former treasurer Pule Mabe and former deputy president Ronald Lamola to become the next leaders.

Khanye said his promise to the young people if elected would be to repay all by creating 20 million jobs. Asked how he planned to do this exactly, Khanye said: “We want to mobilise the youth not only in South Africa but in the whole continent…”

He said they would achieve the jobs goal by revitalising the township economy and driving indigenisation like in Zimbabwe.

Mokoena said they had more chance of winning the leadership race because their mission was not only for South Africa but to integrate the youth from the whole of the Southern African Development Community .

They declared that imperialists would be their first target if they were elected and that their idol was Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe whom they hoped to emulate as leaders.
