The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) has denied reports that journalists were chased out of an oversight meeting in a Limpopo municipality on Wednesday.

“There was a part of the meeting that was open, and they were asked to leave for the closed-door section later,” NCOP spokesman Foster Mohale said.

“Afterwards we spoke to the journalists, and some were allowed to do interviews with the delegates.”

Earlier on Wednesday, SABC news reported that journalists covering the oversight visit in the Ba-Phalaborwa municipality were “chased” out of the meeting.

Mopani district mayor Joshua Matlou and Ba-Phalaborwa municipality mayor Anna Sono were reportedly about to address residents at the meeting about alleged unauthorized expenditure in the district, amounting to over R50 million. - Sapa
