Bloemfontein - The Free State has two new members in the provincial executive council, premier Ace Magashule announced on Thursday.

Nine provincial MECs retained the posts they held before the national and provincial elections in May.

Former executive mayor of the Lejweleputswa district municipality (Welkom), Mathabo Leeto, is one of the two new faces. She was sworn in as arts, culture, sport and recreation MEC. She replaces Dan Kgothule, who lost his place in the executive.

The second newcomer is Free State secretary of the Congress of SA Trade Unions, Sam Mashinini, who was sworn in as public works MEC. He replaced Sisi Mabe, who was sworn in as Free State legislature speaker.

Benny Malakoane was retained as health MEC. Olly Mlamleli kept his job as co-operative governance and traditional affairs and human settlements MEC.

The other members are: Mamiki Qabathe, MEC of agricultural and rural development; Butana Komphela, MEC of police, roads and transport; Tate Makgoe, MEC of education; Mosebenzi Zwane, MEC of economic, tourism and environmental affairs, Elzabe Rockman, MEC of finance; and Sisi Ntombela, who retained her position as social development MEC.
