Johannesburg - Jeffrey Mabelebele has been appointed chief executive of Higher Education SA (Hesa) with immediate effect, the organisation said on Monday.
Chairman Prof Ahmed Bawa said in a statement that Mabelebele shared the Hesa board's vision of improving the quality of its services.
“We welcome the appointment of Dr Mabelebele and look forward to his contribution to the repositioning of Hesa as an authoritative voice of the sector on higher education matters in our country,” Bawa said.
Mabelebele had been acting chief executive of Hesa since December 2011 and was director of operations and sector support at Hesa from 2009.
Prior to this he was director of knowledge management for the National Treasury and director of the project office for the Government Communication and Information System.
Mabelebele holds a Master of Arts degree and doctorate from the University of Limpopo. He has served as a member of the National Research Foundation’s technology and human resources for industry programme board and SA Environmental Observatory Network advisory board.
