The affordable education loan option
Pretoria - A school to breed competent, efficient, accountable and responsive public servants was launched in Pretoria on Monday.
“We have understood that this efficient, effective and responsive public service that we seek, cannot will itself into existence,” said Public Service and Administration Minister Lindiwe Sisulu.
Launching the School of Government at Freedom Park, she said it would replace the Public Administration and Leadership Management Academy.
The National Planning Commission (NPC) had highlighted the unevenness in the state's capacity, which led to uneven performance in local, provincial and national government.
“These include serious skills deficit, instability of the administrative leadership, the erosion of accountability and authority, poor organisational design, inappropriate staffing and low staff morale,” Sisulu said.
“Fundamentally, we have come to the realisation that establishing a functioning state machinery, the creation of a public service ethos and the creation of a cadre of government is a responsibility that cannot and should not be outsourced.”
Ministers, retired public servants and academics from different institutions were expected to lecture at the school.
President Jacob Zuma will officially open the school in December.
