Durban - The leadership of the National Freedom Party has convened a special national working committee (NWC) meeting for Sunday.
The meeting will discuss Friday's Electoral Court ruling in which the NFP's application to contest the August 3 municipal elections was dismissed.
“Firstly, we wish to record our discontent at the ruling by the Electoral Court (EC) to dismiss our application to contest the elections,” NFP acting national chairman Bheki Gumbi said on Saturday.
“As the party, we are extremely disappointed that the EC ruled against us as we were positive that the new evidence presented before the five judges was strong enough. However, as the law abiding citizens of this country we accept the ruling unconditionally. We went to court expecting the outcome in our favour or against us.
“Now that this chapter has come to an end, we have to move forward and it is on this background that we are convening a special NWC meeting to deliberate on the judgment and a way forward. We cannot dwell on what has happened and we will therefore discuss our options going forward. We will thoroughly look at our options and take a decision that we feel is best for the party and its throngs of members.
“One thing for sure, this is not the demise of the NFP. This is not the end. And we want to assure our loyal members and supporters, as well as our president that as the current leadership, we will come out with decisions that are best for the NFP going forward. We appeal to each and every member and supporter of our organisation to bear with us at this difficult time and let us give direction and provide leadership.
“We will continue engaging and consulting with them during various platforms that we will be embarking on from now onwards,” Gumbi said.
