Johannesburg - The YCLSA welcomed the dismissal of National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) CEO Steven Ngubeni on Wednesday.
“The NYDA has always been at the mercy of Ngubeni's wrongdoing and it is about time that bold leadership was executed in dismissing Ngubeni,” said Young Communist League of SA spokesman Khaya Xaba.
The IFP Youth Brigade also supported the dismissal.
“The dismissal of Ngubeni closes a painful chapter for youth development in South Africa,” it said.
The Freedom Front Plus Youth added its voice of support.
“Under his leadership, NYDA has paid hundreds of millions of rand in salaries, bonuses, festivals and other expenses which did not advantage the youth of South Africa at all,” said its leader Wouter Wessels.
He said the investigation into alleged fraud and financial mismanagement, should be completed so that Ngubeni could be held accountable.
Ngubeni has vowed to challenge his dismissal in court.
“I will be taking to the courts for the review of the procedural and substantively unfair decision by the board to summarily dismiss me from the service of NYDA,” he said.
He described the board's notice to relieve him of duties as a hasty decision and a “miscarriage of justice”.
The NYDA announced his dismissal, with immediate effect on Wednesday.
