Cape Town - Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's report on upgrades to President Jacob Zuma Nkandla home marks one of the darkest moments in the country's history since democracy, UDM leader Bantu Holomisa said on Wednesday.
“The findings that President Zuma has once again violated the Executive Members Ethics Code through his failure to act in protection of state resources...and has unduly benefited from the enormous capital investment, must be offensive to any nation that takes pride in the values espoused in its constitution,” Holomisa said.
Holomisa said the report exposed the lack of shame on the part of the ruling party and government.
“The comrades in corruption have a propensity to deceive the citizenry in defence of its susceptible president and each other,” he said.
“The ministers' calculated deception and ex facto justification of the spend is an indication of how institutionalised corruption has rooted itself in government.”
Madonsela's report, released earlier on Wednesday, found that Zuma and his family had unduly benefited from the upgrades to his private homestead in Nkandla.
