SACP General Secretary Blade Nzimande has thrown his weight behind the proposed Media Tribunal.

Print media in South Africa was a threat to democracy, SA Communist Party general secretary Blade Nzimande said in a report published on Tuesday.

“We have a huge liberal offensive against our democracy... The print media is the biggest perpetrator of this liberal thinking,” Nzimande said at the National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu) congress in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg.

Business Day newspaper reported that he said the proposed Media Appeals Tribunal was necessary to protect the future of socialism in South Africa.

“They (the media) have gone to their friends around the world, including those in America to get people to go against the tribunal.

“How can we trust the American journalists who invaded Iraq and then were told what to write by the army generals there? We need a revolutionary, not liberal, defence of our constitution,” said Nzimande.

He was speaking days after the African National Congress' national general council decided that it would instruct Parliament to investigate self-regulation, transformation and ownership in the print media. - Sapa

ANC = NP Those in power want more power and they are no different from the old totaltarian government. Freedom = liberal so if you fight liberal, you want to "limit" freedom for your own agenda. You are liars and you want more power, and the poor will end up paying. Blade is a snake.

So, let me get clarity. Is the SA media a threat to the South African democracy or the ANC autocracy? And what does CNN and BBC (media houses that report on Iraq) have to do with the SA printed media? It would seem that Comrade Blade longs for the good old days like his hero Comrade Stalin used to have. In those days there was no free media and the commies actually were able to murder more than 50 million people without it being broadcast in the media.

And this idiot is the Minister of Higher Education! He doesn\t even understand where the term "liberal democracy" came from or what it means. There is no hope for SA while we are being ruled by a party of dunces.

Blade (not the sharpest by any means) should remember that without the West's liberal media he would still be crouching in the bhundu in Zambia under threat of being nabbed by Zuma's torture gangs if he spoke out of line. The biggest threat to democracy is idiocy , and that is well represented in the ANC.

The real threat to democracy are Gucci socialists like Nzimande, who overwhelm us with silence when wrongs are being perpetuated (e.g. Aurora & Arcelor Mittal). He has turned the SACP into Zuma's lapdog, and because his sterile arguments are routinely exposed and rebuked by the media, he now wants to shut them up.

Seems he is a bit confused, maybe he is talking about democratic socialism !! freedom of speach as long as you support but not criticise cadres !! Hogwash !!! you are either a democract or socialist, which one Mr multi millionaire Blade ?? which one ? tell us !!

This guy's a walking contradiction. Liberal thinking is an offensive against democracy? Journalists invaded Iraq? Revolutionary defence of our constitution? Aristole defined a revolution as "a complete change from one constitution to another". Besides, what does this fool know about revolution? Che Guevara once said "At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love.... We must strive every day so that this love of living humanity will be transformed into actual deeds, into acts that serve as examples, as a moving force".
