Eastern Cape - The OR Tambo region of the ANC Women’s League has decided to back President Jacob Zuma for a second term at the ANC's national elective conference in Mangaung in December.

The Eastern Cape regional ANC Women's League chair Nomakhosazana Meth said in a statement on Monday that the region named businessman Cyril Ramaphosa, to take over as deputy president from Kgalema Motlanthe.

Motlanthe is at the top of several regions' lists for president, but has not yet revealed whether he will accept the nomination.

The region wanted to retain Gwede Mantashe as general secretary and Baleka Mbete as chairwoman.

Jessie Duarte was named to take over as deputy secretary general, while Home Affairs Minister Naledi Pandor was named treasurer general.

Meth said the region “overwhelmingly” decided to support Zuma at the regional general council on Saturday. - Sapa
