Johannesburg - An American public relations consultant for a media company sparked outrage on social media sites on Saturday after tweeting that she would not contract Aids because she is white, SABC news reported.

Justine Sacco tweeted on Friday: “Going to Africa, hope I don't get AIDS. Just kidding, I'm white”.

Sacco is head of public relations for InterActiveCorp (IAC).

The hashtag “#HasJustineLandedYet” was trending on social media site Twitter as people tracked her flight from London's Heathrow Airport to the Cape Town International Airport, according to the report.

IAC which owns match.com condemned the tweet and has since distanced itself.

Sacco has since removed the tweet and posted an apology.
