Pretoria - The Pan Africanist Congress on Saturday claimed general election results had been "highly manipulated".

"The numbers we've seen are not a true reflection... the PAC performed better," secretary general Narius Moloto told reporters at the IEC results centre in Pretoria.

"We are not saying the election was not free and fair, but they were highly manipulated."

The PAC accused the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) of incorrectly allocating its votes to other parties.

Moloto said the party had evidence which it had shown to the IEC.

According to preliminary results the PAC garnered 37 784 votes in the national election which was 0.21 percent.

This was a drop from the 0.27 percent in 2009, when the party received 48 530 votes.

Moloto on Saturday said the PAC had 65 000 members and it always suspected there was something wrong with the IEC system.

Contrary to what had been reported he said the PAC was getting a seat in the National Assembly this year. - Sapa
