Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma has nothing to offer the electorate, is desperate, and wants to separate South Africans on the basis of race, Democratic Alliance Tshwane mayoral candidate Solly Msimanga said on Saturday.

Speaking to journalists at the DA’s August 3 municipal elections closing rally in Dobsonville, Soweto, in Johannesburg, Msimanga said Zuma’s desperate attempts were visible.

“To even spend a billion rand on campaigning, it shows you are not not sure of your story. Therefore the people will punish him and Nkandla, and whoever is protecting him come 3rd of August.”

Msimanga said the DA’s priorities included creating jobs and rooting out corruption.

“One of the strategies to stop corruption is by disclosing how public funds will be spent. There is no way you can spend public money without assuring the public what you are spending it for. We’ve been calling for tender adjudication to be made public. Members of the public must know why someone is getting a tender.”

Msimanga said most corruption took place in big tender allocations.

“You can’t give somebody a billion rand contract, break it down, and empower small businesses, thus creating more job opportunities.

“Once we are in power, we will make all our officials sign a performance agreement that indicates that if you are failing to deliver on time you will also be out,” Msimanga said.
