Cape Town - A hard lobbying process to bring Pope Francis to Cape Town would soon be on the table, said the re-elected chairperson of the African National Congress in the Western Cape, Marius Fransman, on Tuesday.

“We believe that it is time for the revolutionary Pope to visit South Africa,” said Fransman.

Speaking from the party’s Cape Town office, Fransman said Pope Francis spoke to ANC concerns such as poverty alleviation, equal rights, and solving unemployment, which maked a papal visit to the country significant.

In this light he said: “It is very important for the Pope to visit South Africa, especially Cape Town.”

“A hard lobbying process will begin through the international relations department of the ANC,” said Fransman.

The ANC in the Western Cape recently hosted the Cuban Five, five former intelligence agents who were recently released from United States prisons after being accused of espionage.
