Limpopo - Parliament's portfolio committee on basic education visited Limpopo on Thursday to gather information on delays in the delivery of school textbooks.
Chairwoman Helen Malgas said the committee would take all concerns raised into consideration.
It met with former Gauteng education MEC Mary Metcalfe, unions, provincial government officials, and the SA Principals' Association.
“This meeting is meant to get concerns and issues raised and make recommendations,” Malgas said.
“This is a multilateral process that involves many stakeholders.”
On Monday the basic education department appointed Metcalfe to assess the non-delivery of books in the province.
Another national task team was appointed by President Jacob Zuma, while the Limpopo government set up its own committee to probe the saga.
Malgas said: “We are interested in the processes when it comes to procurement and the issuing of tenders. We are also concerned with reported incidents about school books being dumped when they are needed the most by pupils.”
On Thursday the Democratic Alliance criticised the Limpopo government for appointing its own task team.
“The provincial task team cannot be expected to deliver objective results because the province has a vested interest to protect its actions regarding this saga,” DA spokesman Cameron Arendse said.
“These issues will not be addressed through a commission of inquiry constituted solely of loyal cadres,” he said. - Sapa
