Bloemfontein - The Northern Cape government has launched its own air service in Kimberley to fly VIP’s, government officials and private sector passengers across the province, a provincial transport official said on Thursday.
“Premier Sylvia Lucas… launched a successful intra-provincial fight service in conjunction with Phakalane Airways,” said Lebogang Majaha, spokesman for Northern Cape transport MEC Mac Jack.
The flight service follows a provincial government feasibility study to investigate a scheduled and non-scheduled air service to address some travel requirement of VVIP’s, senior government officials, the private sector and the larger communities.
Majaha said the study showed it was possible to introduce an economically viable and safe air transport service linking the major towns in the province.
“The current business and tourist travel profile in the Northern Cape also makes it improbable to establish an intra-provincial air service purely on market forces.”
