Mahikeng - A total of R15 million was spent on multimedia resources in the North West which contributed to improved matric results, premier Thandi Modise said on Friday.

The province had the most improved matric results in the country last year, she said in her state-of-the-province address prepared for delivery.

The matric results had improved from under 60 percent in 1994 to 87.2 percent in 2013.

“We are humbled by the work of our school governing bodies keeping schools functional in all respects... often having to trade words to ensure that parents, teachers, learners and communities focused their energies correctly on our children Ä our future,” Modise said.

She said the R15m had benefited 500 secondary schools over the past five years.

It had also contributed to the improvement in teaching and learning maths and science.
