Ramaphosa on Sri Lanka visitComment on this story
Johannesburg - Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Sri Lanka on Monday on an official visit, the international relations department said.
“Ramaphosa will be supported during the visit to Sri Lanka by the deputy minister of international relations and co-operation, Ms Nomaindia Mfeketo,” spokesman Clayson Monyela said.
President Jacob Zuma met his Sri Lankan counterpart, Mahinda Rajapaksa, during the Commonwealth Heads of State and Government meeting in November last year.
“It was during this occasion that President Rajapaksa requested President Zuma to share South Africa's experiences in reconciliation and nation-building with Sri Lanka,” he said.
Ramaphosa was also invited to Sri Lanka by senior delegations from the Sri Lankan government and the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) who were in the country earlier this year.
Ramaphosa and Mfeketo were scheduled to be in Sri Lanka on Monday and Tuesday.
