Johannesburg -

Communities must report corrupt officials, North West Premier Thandi Modise said.

“It is because of corruption that ordinary people are unable to get services that are due to them,” Modise said.

“Communities are not able to get proper roads, water, electricity, houses and sanitation because of people who are corrupt.”

Modise made this call at an event to commemorate international anti-corruption day at Kanana Township near Orkney on Friday.

She urged communities to report corruption, as rooting out corruption was a joint effort with government.

“We will really appreciate it if all of us can join hand in the fight against this enemy that robs our beautiful province.”

Modise said that corrupt senior managers had already been fired and the North West government was taking action against other officials suspected of misappropriating funds.

“I want to warn those who think we are playing that there are senior managers in government who have being fired due to corruption and others are being suspended as we speak.”

Gosiame Seatlholo of the North West house of traditional leaders said that it was time to deal strictly with corrupt officials.

“Our communities will be very happy to see people being punished because of their corrupt tendencies.” - Sapa
