Johannesburg - The ANC Youth League called on political roleplayers on Wednesday to respect performing artists who associated themselves with the ANC.

“Performing artists are people before they are artists,” said league national convener Mzwandile Masina.

“They are citizens with full rights like any other South African citizen.”

He said there had been reports of politicians who have attacked some performing artists for associating themselves with the ANC.

“The ANC has been the home of musicians, actors and other performing artists during the struggle against colonialism and apartheid, during reconciliation and nation-building years, and still remains the only home that cares for artists,” Masina said.

He said the league was proud of DJ Sbu's clear political stand.

DJ Sbu (Sibusiso Leope) has said he was proud of being an ANC member.

“Economic Freedom Fighters' leaders have no vision and have no long-term future in the South African political landscape.

“They should leave our performing artists alone,” he said.
