SABC group company secretary Thelma Melk has been suspended on charges that include taking leave without authorisation and poor work performance, according to a report on Tuesday.

The Business Day reported that SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago confirmed that Melk was suspended on Friday. He declined to comment further.

According to the newspaper, Melk is facing charges of poor work performance for allegedly failing to revise policy, along with failure to perform her duties, which allegedly include timeously registering a director in terms of required legislation and for taking leave without proper authorisation.

The matter will not be heard internally but will go straight to the Commission for Conciliation, Meditation and Arbitration. - Sapa
