Johannesburg - The SA Communist Party on Wednesday said it was thrilled that Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma was elected as AU commission chair.
“This election is a further affirmation by the continent of the role and trust that the entire continent has in South Africa, and the ANC specifically,” spokesman Malesela Maleka said in a statement.
“The SACP hopes that the African Union will act firmly to co-ordinate Africa’s development and drive Africa out of a path of dependence.”
Dlamini Zuma was elected as AU commission chairwoman on Sunday. She was sworn in on Tuesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at the AU's two-day 19th ordinary session of heads of state and government.
The SACP wished Dlamini Zuma all the best in her new position. - Sapa
