Johannesburg - The tripartite alliance should boldly advance with a second phase of the democratic transformation of the country, the SA Communist Party said on Sunday.

“Now is not the time to demobilise our forces, or to indulge in diversions,” general secretary Blade Nzimande told reporters in Johannesburg.

“Now is not the time to become hesitant in the face of threats from the side of monopoly capital.”

Nzimande was addressing the media at the conclusion of the organisation's central committee meeting held over the weekend.

He said the majority of the working class and poor had placed their trust in the African National Congress-led alliance.

He congratulated the ANC on their election victory, despite overwhelming challenges.

He lambasted the media on their election coverage and for being anti-ANC.

“The electoral campaign also coincided with serious challenges to the unity of Cosatu and the emergence of a right-wing demagogic movement, the EFF (Economic Freedom Fighters), posing as left-wing and mobilising opportunistically on the basis of objectively grounded youth grievances,” he said. - Sapa
