Bloemfontein - Transformation targets at Free State municipalities have been realised and should stop, Free State Freedom Front Plus leader Abrie Oosthuizen said on Tuesday.

He said that in most municipalities transformation had reached levels of over 90 percent. The same situation was found at provincial government departments.

“Cadre deployment and transformation in the Free State have reached satisfactory levels. Transformation has reached its saturation point.”

Oosthuizen said Magashule should make sure that merit started to count as the most important aspect in appointing municipal officials.

The best person for the job should be appointed, without colour, race or other factors playing a role.

Oosthuizen said only when this happened would the Free State succeed as a province.

He said the FFPlus would have liked to see more of Magashule’s plans in handling problems of service delivery at municipalities, which were largely ignored in the state-of-the-province address.

Oosthuizen welcomed the premier’s stance and plans against attacks in rural communities, crime and the fight against corruption.

He said efforts against corruption should be aimed at people both in the government and the private sector. - Sapa
