Pretoria -The latest human settlements expenditure update of all provinces will be handed to Minister Tokyo Sexwale on Friday.
“Minister Sexwale, having applied his mind, will make his decision,” his department said in a statement on Wednesday.
This was not elaborated upon, but immediate attempts to reach the department's spokesman Xolani Xundu were unsuccessful.
Sexwale recently warned that under-performing provinces in the 2012/2013 financial year risked having a portion of their budgets taken away.
“Whilst recognising some genuine difficulties confronting provinces.... a situation cannot be tolerated where flimsy excuses are put forward which stymie delivery to communities,” Sexwale said in a statement on Wednesday.
“This malaise is essentially as a result of the combination of two factors - employment of officials and people with little or no experience at all... and the hiring of questionable contractors to participate in large-scale housing construction projects.”
Sexwale said he was determined to see the “last of this under-expenditure” this year. - Sapa
