The ANC Youth League's “arrogant” spokesman, Floyd Shivambu has to vacate his position, the party's national disciplinary committee said on Thursday.
Chairman Derek Hanekom said Shivambu was suspended and found guilty on several charges for swearing at a journalist, and for accusing the ruling party of associating with imperialists.
The sanction was not suspended.
Hanekom described Shivambu as defiant, arrogant and ill-disciplined.
His membership of the ANCYL was suspended for three years and he had to vacate his position as spokesman.
Shivambu was guilty of prejudicing the reputation of the African National Congress for swearing at a journalist, said Hanekom.
Using vulgar language was a breach of the ANC's code of conduct, said Hanekom.
“A spokesperson is the face of an organisation.”
His action was unacceptable, Hanekom told reporters at Luthuli House in Johannesburg.
He was also found guilty of misconduct about a statement he made on Botswana.
Shivambu had said the ANC was “acting outside its own policy directives by associating with imperialists”.
His misconduct had “severely prejudiced” the ANC.
He put the country at risk and his statement posed a threat to foreign investment.
“The NDC has noted the arrogance of the respondent,” said Hanekom. - Sapa

I wonder if the ANCYL's website has been updated yet as to who is now in charge of the league and if the ousted members in KZN have been re-instated yet?

It is indeed a sad day for politics in our country, the fact that we on a continued basis have to deal with home brew delinquent leaders, leaders that grew up in the struggle, that understand the reasons for our(the ANC) existance, but continue to act as self appointed leaders, undermining the electorate, the positions entrusted to them. That the ANC is beginning to act in the way it did the last month or so is refreshing, the verdict today, has restored some faith in me for the current Leadership at HQ.The less said about the YL leadership, the better. God Bless the ANC.

National disciplinay committee has done a very wonderful job, Malema thought he was above everyone and what happened to his so called supporters now. Now he will be part of the Archaic memory of south africa and the time he comes back he isnt going to be eligible for the youth league position anymore.

There seems to be a lot of confusion as to wether Juju has been suspended wether its two years or five. The bottom line is, the idiot should have been totally axed and not allowed to practise politics for the rest of his useless life. Our ANC government need to wise up before they stuff everything up unredemeemably.

Come Mangaung, we will deal with Mickey Mouses ( Clean the ANC house) including the Honey-kombuis. Remember how fearless we are, whether educated or not, it doesnt matter. pp are afraid to speak their minds and hide behind match-sticks. Distribution of wealth are not Malema or Floyd policies, But ANC's and if some rags to rich pp are developing amnesia, then will wait and see.

Shivambu has been a catalist on all the youth leagues recent standings. He has been one of the shadows feeding Malema with all crap we've been hearing. His swearing of a journalist just shows you his moral standing. if this is the calibre of leaders we will have in future, if this is the standard we have set for ourselves, we have aimed very low. these 'boys' don't need to be schooled in politics, they need basic lessons on moral values. how dare they compare themselves with Mandela, i have never hear Mandela or any other ANC veteran curse or advance hatred statements towards others!!

How can you say the the ANC do not have the authority to kick people out of the leadership of the party? The Youth League is the junior division of the party and the leadership of the party have the authority to do as they please within the party. Malema and Shivambu and all the other thugs are free to go and start their own party, but they cannot highjack and existing party and try to change it to suit their agenda's. If they do not agree with the party they need to grow a pair and move out from under the protection of a big esablished party and start their own party with policies and agenda's that they believe in and want to promote. If they start their communist thug party you are also free to vote for them and follow them. That is the beauty of a free and democratic country. Idiots are also free to have a voice and we are all free to ignore them or follow them depending on our intelligence.
