Johannesburg - The justice, crime prevention and security cluster of ministers on Wednesday noted how Public Protector Thuli Madonsela intends to deal with the report on the Nkandla security upgrade.
“Government notes the public protector's outline on how her office will deal with the interim report and comments submitted by the JCPS cluster on the security upgrades at Nkandla,” justice spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga said in a statement on behalf of the cluster.
“The JCPS cluster ministers reaffirm government's respect and recognition of the role and office of the public protector and commit to taking the process further in a constructive manner and in the interest of the public and national security,” he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Madonsela said her team would review the response of the security cluster ministers to her provisional report on the R206 million security upgrade of President Jacob Zuma's private Nkandla homestead in KwaZulu-Natal.
Where considered reasonable the report would be altered, Madonsela told reporters in Pretoria.
“I will invite the ministers to nominate security experts from within government to meet me in my offices to discuss the contended issues... without showing them the report,” she said.
“I will thereafter apply my mind and make a decision.”
Madonsela was speaking after the security cluster of ministers submitted a 28-page response to her provisional report.
She received the submission from Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa on behalf of the security cluster of ministers on Friday.
Madonsela said she would discuss whatever issues remained with selected independent experts.
The report would then be shared with the interested parties.
She said she would release the report in a manner she deemed fit.
