The chairperson of Cape Metropolitan Council's finance committee and New National Party member Attie Adriaanse was on Wednesday elected metropolitan mayor.
Adriaanse replaces William Bantom, who resigned recently after he was caught viewing pornography on the Internet in his office.
Adriaanse served on the Western Cape Regional Services Council from 1987 to 1996, and since then has been chairperson of the finance committee and a member of the council executive committee.
Pat Hill of the Democratic Party remains deputy metropolitan mayor. - Sapa
