Cape Town - Telecommunications and Postal Services Minister Siyabonga Cwele on Friday announced that he had suspended his director-general Rosey Sekese.

Cwele’s office said in a statement, that the decision was taken after the minister had received responses from Sekese on why she should not be suspended.

“After considering the reasons and applying his mind, Minister Cwele has decided to place the Director-General on precautionary suspension for a period of 60 days while the Public Service Commission [PSC] conducts its independent inquiry,” the ministry said.

Cwele said Sekese would receive her full salary while on suspension.

Tinyiko Ngobeni was appointed as acting director-general.

Earlier this week, Cwele agreed to an independent inquiry by the the PSC to probe problems in the department leadership.

The terms of reference of the inquiry would include investigating possible abuses of power in the department, and the role Sekese played in the tensions that were being experienced at management level in the department.
