Rustenburg – Political parties were tight-lipped on Friday about a coalition to govern Rustenburg, the platinum rich city in North West.
The Forum 4 Service Delivery (F4SD) an umbrella for independents councillors, former ANC councillors, said it would be in a position to shed light on the coalition on Sunday.
“We will speak on Sunday,” said Bosa Ledwaba from the F4SD.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) said a media statement would be issued after engagements, to inform the community and the society at large about the coalition.
The ANC won 43 council seats with 48.55 percent of votes, failing to score an outright win to govern. The EFF won 24 seats with 26.76 percent of votes followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) with 16 percent of votes and secured 14 council seats. The DA lost its status as official opposition in Rustenburg.
The F4SD won four seats, the African Independent Congress (AIC), Freedom Front Plus, United Democratic Movement (UDM) and Botho Community Movement (BCM) each won a seat.
BCM had earlier this week indicated that it was open for coalition with a condition that it would not compromised the aspiration of people in Boitekong east of Rustenburg. BCM was formed in Boitekong.
The Freedom Front Plus said its national office was handling all coalition talks.
The DA and ANC could not be reached for comment.
