Bloemfontein - The time to serve the people of the Free State has come, newly re-elected premier Ace Magashule said on Wednesday.

“The time is now to share the wealth of South Africa,” Magashule told the newly-inaugurated members of the Free State legislature in Bloemfontein.

“It's now the time to serve the Free State people, white and black.”

In a short acceptance speech, Magashule said economic freedom would happen “in our lifetime”. There were cheers and applause from the public gallery.

He told the members they were the real fighters for economic freedom.

Democratic Alliance leader in the legislature Roy Jankielsohn reminded those legislature members who would form the provincial executive that they remained accountable to the House.

The Economic Freedom Fighters' Mandisa Makesini urged Magashule and other leaders to “man up” and be honest with the people of the Free State.

She said Magashule should put the needs of the province's people and quality service delivery first.

Makesini said they would work closely with government to deliver on its promises and would not be quiet until all citizens had economic freedom.

Freedom Front Plus member Wouter Wessels told Magashule his new term was a chance for redemption to address the Free State's problems. - Sapa
