Port Elizabeth - Nelson Mandela Bay DA mayoral candidate came in for a lashing at the ANC’s Eastern Cape Siyanqoba rally in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

Provincial rural development and agrarian reform MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane, who is also the ANC provincial spokesman, said there was absolutely no way DA mayoral candidate Athol Trollip would run the metro.

He criticised Trollip for portraying himself as the “martyr and saviour” of the people of the metro while the ANC still existed. The DA believes that is stands a strong chance of winning the metro following a steady decline for the ruling party in the area.

ANC national spokesman Zizi Kodwa characterised Trollip him as the biggest liar to have ever walked the metro.

He called on residents not to be duped by the DA leader because he spoke flawless Xhosa. Blacks make over 60 percent of the metro's population.

Kodwa also called on the current ANC mayor and mayoral candidate Danny Jordaan not to show mercy to thieves masquerading as public servants. These were people who had given the ANC a bad name.

President Jacob Zuma will give the keynote address at the rally.

Qoboshiyane invoked the names of late ANC struggle stalwarts - Vuyisile Mini, Raymond Mhlaba and Govan Mbeki – who all come from the Eastern Cape while welcoming Zuma.
