Cape Town - National Assembly Speaker Max Sisulu swore in two new Members of Parliament on Thursday.

They were Reverend Kenneth Meshoe of the African Christian Democratic Party and Justus de Goede of the Democratic Alliance, Parliament said in a statement.

Meshoe, the ACDP leader, replaced Wayne Thring with effect from November 21 and De Goede replaced Ian Davidson with effect from December 1.

Davidson, a former DA Chief Whip, retired last month. The DA has 67 seats in the National Assembly.

In July, Meshoe announced his plans to temporarily step down as an MP. At the time he said this did not mean he was leaving politics or permanently giving up his position in the party.

Meshoe has been an MP since the country achieved democracy in 1994. The ACDP has three seats in the National Assembly.
