United Christian Democratic Party president Mavis Matladi has died, the party said on Friday.

Deputy president Sipho Mfundisi said Matladi died at the Milpark Hospital on Friday morning. She was admitted to the hospital on November 12 with breathing problems.

Matladi, 53, was elected as UCDP's leader in January after the expulsion of its founder Lucas Mangope, who governed Bophuthatswana from 1977 until 1994 when the homelands were scrapped.
