Johannesburg - SACP deputy general secretary Jeremy Cronin on Thursday criticised the EFF for being rabble-rousers who show off expensive possessions, SABC radio news reported.

“We know that workers are not fooled by these loud-mouth demagogues; these tenderpreneurs in red berets,” the SA Communist Party stalwart said at a May Day rally in Daveyton, on the East Rand.

A tenderpreneur is a politician who seeks self-enrichment by trying to get government contracts.

“They (The Economic Freedom Fighters) have never done an honest day's work in their life, so where do they get their fancy cars, their fancy watches, their fancy shoes?” Cronin asked.

He linked the political party's practices to the current strike in the platinum mining sector.

“The EFF, like Amcu, that vigilante union, hijack real grievances,” Cronin said.

Members of the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) have been on strike for over three months since they downed tools at Anglo American Platinum, Impala Platinum, and Lonmin on January 23. They want a basic salary of R12 500 per month.

Amcu is a rival union to the ANC-affiliated National Union of Mineworkers. - Sapa
