The affordable education loan option
Durban - “When I walk in, even Zuma retreats.” DA parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko made this comment to much laughter and applause on Tuesday when she addressed the DA’s student organisation at Durban’s Mangosuthu University of Technology ahead of their SRC election on Thursday.
“And, the only reason the ANC makes personal attacks on me is because they feel intimidated as we are the party that delivers,” she said, referring to comments made by the opposition about her clothes and weight.
Mazibuko asked the students to stand firm for their party and unite against those who intimidated and attacked them, even on campus.
“The ANC even refer to our black members in power as window dressing. They try to intimidate us in Parliament because they know change is coming,” she said.
DA student organisation presidential candidate Bheka Ntuli echoed his leader’s sentiments.
“You have heard them saying she is a fashion disaster, but we don’t care because they are intellectual disasters,” he said, adding that one of the reasons he should be SRC president was that he would not spend the SRC budget on expensive clothing.
Mazibuko promised the students better facilities if they voted for the DA on campus.
“I know that only three out of 14 residences have cafeterias; the DA student organisation will deliver to students if they win.”
She said the DA would improve the library, help students with transport and organise book vouchers.
Mazibuko said she understood students’ frustrations as she had worn the “same shoes” once. “I was born and bred here in uMlazi and I worked at my father’s supermarket in Z Section. I watched the people of uMlazi so I know them well,” she said.
