Winnie Madikizela-Mandela is horrified that a local magazine has turned Caster Semenya into a "caricature" by dolling her up for its cover story.
"It was totally outrageous. It was the most cruel prank any human could inflict on another. It added salt to a gaping wound," the veteran politician said last night.
She was referring to the You magazine, who photographed Semenya, in a dress, make-up and high-heels, which critics believes has merely fed into the "stereotype" of what some believe a woman should look like.
"I don't think it was kind to dress her like that and to make a spectacle of her.
"That was grossly irresponsible, that was cruel, that was vicious. I don't think anyone who did such a thing should be forgiven by society. How do you do that?," Madikizela-Mandela said last night.
Attempts to reach You magazine for comment last night were unsuccessful.
