The ANC is fuming at a Sunday Times cartoon depicting ruling party leader Jacob Zuma about to rape lady justice with the help of leaders of the alliance partners and the cartoonist will not apologise.
ANC spokesperson Jesse Duarte said on Monday morning that the cartoon is "vile, crude and disgusting" while the party's secretary general Gwede Mantashe said it was racist.
Zapiro's cartoon, which appeared in Sunday's paper, depicts ANC Youth League president Julius Malema and secretaries general of the ANC, SACP and Cosatu - Mantashe, Blade Nzimande and Zwelinzima Vavi pinning down lady justice while Zuma is unzipping his pants. Mantashe urges Zuma to "go for it".
Duarte said on Monday morning that the cartoon is not funny.
Duarte said Zapiro (whose real name is Jonathan Shapiro) has lost his capacity to draw funny and clever cartoons.
