DA leader Helen Zille is likely to be challenged for the top spot at her party's next elective congress in two years, the Sunday Times reports.

“I really do think there will be a challenge at the next congress because we believe that party leadership should be changed,” former DA parliamentary leader Athol Trollip was quoted by the paper as saying.

Zille is unopposed for her position at the Democratic Alliance's elective conference later this month. She could not expect the same courtesy at the next conference, Trollip said.

“I think Helen Zille was not challenged now because she has done very well and we need her to continue that momentum into 2014. But I think by 2014... there will be a strong leadership challenge in our party,” he was quoted as saying.

Trollip was replaced as DA parliamentary leader by Lindiwe Mazibuko. - Sapa
