The leader of the official opposition in the Western Cape legislature, Lynne Brown, has accused Premier Helen Zille of not listening to the people of the province.

Responding to Zille’s State of the Province address on Tuesday, Brown said she was shocked because “it doesn’t show us systematically how we will deal with poverty today, create food security, a sustainable plan for housing delivery, good health care for the poorest”.

Zille is set to give her reply tomorrow.

During the debate on Tuesday

, Brown said: “I think the DA-government is too arrogant to listen to the people of this province. You make personal attacks on anyone who raises issues you disagree with on Twitter…

“Wilmot James (the DA federal chairman) in an article yesterday (Monday) says the DA is the opposition and not the enemy of the ANC.

“I want to take that further and say the ANC is the opposition and not the enemy. People who oppose you are not enemies, they have a view and you must learn to listen to it.

“Our project collectively is to unite this province, build it and create a better life for all our people.

“No, Madam Premier, when we shine because our matrics do so well, and we don’t show how we improve education in poor communities, we make a mockery of a plan to be better together,” she said.

Health MEC Theuns Botha countered that Zille’s speech had vision.

“The Western Cape government wants to improve all citizens and we are better together. The government must govern effectively and efficiently.”

Botha claimed that the provincial government was going from good to excellent.

Its because Lynne Brown doesn't understand the concept of to deal with poverty, create food security, how to create a sustainable plan for housing delivery or create good health care for the poorest. I'm afraid she's a little out of her league here playing with the big boys.

It is easy to criticize when people don’t know what they want or need. It does not take one budget speech to change the wrongs of the past, need we remind people that under ANC Premier and Mayor things were worse that they are now! I lived in CT when Zille became a mayor and Her work speak for her. She’s a Premier now and Still her work speak for her. Before we say things Check where other parties run the Province what is happening, including GP… People learn accept when people are doing great. What did the President say he’ll do to deal with poverty and all the other issues Brown is mentioning. Did any of Zille Critics have listen to the other Premiers speech? And if you did what did they say that makes us believe they will do better now. Let me help you, they told us about the problems and challenges they are facing and these are their own doing half the time.

@ AD 2:35pm: You guys always point out Michell's Plain and so forth. What about area's in ANC control that are the same?. What about those guys that were doing illegal electricity connections in the Gauteng region because they didn't have electricity. So quick to point a finger at DA poverty area's, but so quick to forget that ANC has many more area's that are the same. Don't be a hypocrite!. Both the DA & ANC need to address these issues, NOT JUST THE DA.

@epic F, my dear let me educate you about khayelitsha, it has been developed by the funding from national not your precious DA, there's a programme called URP and that programme was formed by former president thabo mbeki to fast track service delivery in big cities like capetown, everything you saw that has been improved from Khayelitsha it comes from that funding. One must not comment on misinformation, get the facts before opening your mouth. Lynn is telling the truth, DA doesnt listen to the people period they are arrogant and from where im standing arrogance will cost them big time. ANC has fallen in the WC but thats not important, whats important is how we rise from the ground and the DA must watch out we have arrived and more rivived and WC will be govern by ANC very soon.

Agreed @ Juan. Why are all the people from other provinces flocking to Cape Town??? This influx would obviously cause more pressure on the DA, as more people are standing with their hands out, showing to their mouths, saying - Feed me, feed me (jobs, jobs). If the ANC is doing so well in those provinces, why dont the people stay there?

A lot of the funding necessary for provincial projects are covered by national government, not provincial government so requests are made but the national government, for whatever reason, stalls them and nothing gets done and the provincial government gets the flack. The reason we are hearing more and more critisism of the Western Cape rather than other provinces when it comes to service delivery is because of the difference in parties. If it was anywhere else it would be downplayed.

Oh please man, all this typical mouthing with hysterical shreek. Go and selfimprove mitchells plain etc with all its out of control society then tell us what to do. Browns screeming shows us nothing. Like those from Transkei teach us nothing of their great performance in that area. Like some shippingcompanies have coloured women dealing with accounts, that shout you down when wrong.

Lynne Brown, you need to stop eating sh!t cos all that @rselicking is only making you gain more weight. You also look like Zuma's taken a huge dump on your face. You look like a f@t fcuk and even your own comrades wont sleep with you....now you are on a smear campaign. Tell me something NEW Lynne. The ANC has won 8 out of the 9 provinces. Why is it that all 8 PROVINCES ARE facing ruin and maladministration of state funds...??? Why is it only the WC, which they have not won, is successful? It is because Zille listened to the People of the WC. She didnt have to bend down for anyone like you do..... now get with the programme... go bend for JZ... he likes it like that.

Believe Joburg is bankrupt and that soon there won't be any money for essential services. Lynn just wants the opportunity to run Cape Town into the ground. Viva comrade Brown, viva!

@WHAT?? 2:33pm - I approached our local DA councillor, via email, and asked for some traffic improvements in the ward. All I got was added to the DAs email Spamlist. So, ja, they do listen - but what they actually listen to is not what the people want them to hear. They're a dirty bunch those politicians.....

Lynne Brown needs to get a reality check and go to other provinces and see how her beloved ANC is messing up (would have used another word but can't). She is a money hungry political prostitute! End of story!
