Rustenburg – President Jacob Zuma on Saturday called for ANC members to unite and fight the problems facing South Africa, such as corruption and racism.

He delivered the ANC’s annual January 8 statement during the party’s 104th anniversary celebrations in Phokeng, near Rustenburg in North West.

The ANC was formed on January 8, 1912.

“Members must remember that the ANC belongs to the people, with its tradition and values. Work together to expose corruption, factionalism, slate politics, and all other ills that have no place in the ANC.”

Turning to racism, he said it was clear some South Africans still “idolised” the country’s apartheid past.

“It is clear there is a tiny minority which idolises apartheid leaders. These people do not represent the true character of South Africa.”

As the ANC turned 104, the democratic expression and the will of the majority should be protected by all citizens at all times, he said.

Everything South Africans did should be towards the fulfilment of the African Union’s vision 2030, Zuma said.
