The Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are laying separate criminal charges against President Jacob Zuma today.

This follows the release of the Public Protector's final report on the Nkandla saga which painted a bleak picture of a project which was initially supposed to cost taxpayers R27 million, but ballooned to an estimated quarter of a billion due to a dismal failure to control spending, Eye Witness News reported earlier.

Various reputable news organisations are reporting via Twitter that the DA has laid eight criminal charges against Jacob Zuma at Nkandla police station in KwaZulu-Natal.

And Sapa reports that Economic Freedom Fighters supporters gathered outside the Sunnyside police station in Pretoria around lunch time on Thursday.

The supporters, wearing EFF red T-shirts and berets, were waiting for party leader Julius Malema to arrive.

Malema is expected to lay charges against President Jacob Zuma.

The crowd of about 200 shouted slogans criticising Zuma and the ruling ANC, and caused a traffic snarl-up in Leyds Street.

In her report, Madonsela found that Zuma had "unduly benefited from the enormous capital investment" in the Nkandla upgrades. These had totalled R246 million. - IOL
