Members of the South African Defence Force did a 21 gun salute and a fly-past using helicopters BK 117, Agusta A109, the Oryx and the Rooivalk.

The largest formation of the day , Callsign Astra, consisted of 22 Pilatus PC-7 MK2's, including the Silver Falcon. The formation in the shape of the number 20 symbolised the celebration of 20 years of democracy.
