Johannesburg - A painting of President Jacob Zuma with his genitals exposed is an insult to all South Africans, Cosatu said on Wednesday.

“The painting is not only deeply offensive to the president personally, but to his family and all South Africans, regardless of their position,” Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) spokesman Patrick Craven said in a statement.

Ayanda Mabulu's painting “Umshini Wam (Weapon of Mass Destruction)” went on display at the AVA Gallery in Cape Town on Monday night, as part of the “Our Fathers” exhibition.

Craven said Zuma, like everyone else, was entitled to be treated with respect.

The Star quoted Mabulu as saying: “The painting depicting Jacob Zuma is a respectful one. He is clothed in his culture. He is clothed in his manhood. He is not naked.” - Sapa
