Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma was relaxed at his home in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday, the presidency said.

“Earlier, the president visited two local voter registration stations in Halambu and Ntolwane Primary Schools respectively,” spokesman Mac Maharaj said in a statement.

On Saturday Twitter was abuzz with reports that Zuma’s son Duduzane Zuma was being investigated after he was allegedly involved in a fatal crash last week.

The reports could not be confirmed, however.

In his statement, Maharaj said Zuma would spend Sunday at home as well, ahead of a busy week.

“He was happy with the turn out of potential voters, especially the young people who indicated they would be voting for the first time on May 7.

“The president will spend the second day of voter registration at home, resting ahead of a full week including a working visit to Congo-Brazzaville and his State of the Nation Address in Cape Town on Thursday.”

The ANC said in the week, Zuma would attend a door-to-door campaign in Gauteng over the weekend.

However, spokesman Jackson Mthembu said on Saturday that there had been miscommunication between the party and the president's office, and that Zuma would not be able attend the campaign.

Zuma announced on Friday that the fifth national general elections would be held on May 7. - Sapa
