Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma will not attend the upcoming Cabinet lekgotla, spokesman Mac Maharaj said on Monday evening.

“President Jacob Zuma continues to rest at home this week and will not attend the Cabinet Lekgotla tomorrow (Tuesday),” Maharaj said in a statement.

The Lekgotla would run from June 10-12 and would be chaired by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, he said.

Zuma was discharged from a Pretoria hospital on Sunday after spending a night there.

ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said Zuma, 72, went for a routine health check.

On Friday, the African National Congress leadership said Zuma was instructed to take a break as the election campaign had taken its toll on him.

Mantashe said the party's election campaign had been punishing and all senior members of the party would take time off one after the other to “re-energise”.
