Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma will leave for Kingston, Jamaica, on Thursday for a working visit.

He would be accompanied by the international relations department's deputy minister Marius Fransman, department spokesman Clayson Monyela said in a statement on Tuesday.

“President Zuma is expected to hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and will exchange views on strengthening relations between the two countries, as well as on issues of mutual concern, both in the bilateral and multilateral spheres.”

The visit formed part of celebrations to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Jamaica's independence. It was also about recognising the role played by Jamaica in the struggle against apartheid, and to celebrate Jamaica's achievements as a parliamentary democracy.
