President Jacob Zuma will use social media to find out what is troubling South Africans ahead of his State of the Nation address on February 9, his office said on Sunday.

Zuma used Facebook last year to encourage ordinary citizens to speak directly to him and to highlight the needs of communities.

This year, his social networking platform has expanded to include Facebook, Twitter and email, the presidency said in a statement.

Last year, Bongokuhle Miya from uMzimkhulu used Facebook to tell Zuma about sewerage overflow, floodwaters and stray animals in his town.

According to the presidency, the town's sewerage system was being upgraded, roads were being realigned to deal with flooding and an animal pound is being built.

Portia Mrwetyana from Bekkersdal in Gauteng wrote on Zuma's Facebook wall asking for houses for her community.

A government investigation found the informal settlement where she lived was dolomitic and prone to sinkholes.

“The government has begun a programme of resettling Ms Mrwetyana’s community to the neighbouring municipality of Mohlakeng where land is suitable for building houses and providing basic services,” the presidency said.

This year, South Africans can email their problems to president(at)po.gov.za or connect with the president through his Facebook page (PresidencyZA) or use his Twitter account (at)SAPresident, or the hashtag #PresidentSona. - Sapa

It astounds me that there are poeple out there that think you are providiong a service of any sorts.... The government system of medicine , education , police are all failing us..... I think the only system that works is SARS. As a country we are heavily tax and get nothing back from the government. I am sick to death of the unaccountability of our government and the abuse of the government funds. Why do we have to settle and watch as the poeple in government posts openly commit fraud and continue to get away with it. It is a disgrace. Why is it that the government cannot openly deal with corrruption so that poeple are afraid of braiking the law. Instead they vote in the secrecy act to cover up all the fraud..... How is it that the massses in tghis country continue to supprt an institution that fails to look after the tax payers.... Do you have the courage to actually do something about this...... I wander.......

Mr President, hello. Why do you give Roux Shabangu so many tenders? Why is your nephew so rich, your son, even more richer, your children all running around in the government departments acting like they own it? You dont see Obama allowing his children and his family and relatives to do as they please, do you? Why is Mac Maharaj's wife being investigated? He is supposed to be your spokesman, yet he is also corrupt. Why can't you clean up your act and be the President of the Country for those who have appointed you there? Why have you let your own people down, or do you see YOUR OWN people as being specifically your relatives, friends and cronies? Is black people of other cultures not regarded as YOUR PEOPLE? Have you read the story of Moses? You should read it again. God is with everyone, and the rot will be exposed. You are a poor example to the future of this country. The future means: all little children of this country who look up to a man who has no intergrity, no morals, is promiscious, who sleeps with anything that has a hole in the middle, who is a criminal element, and yet, who is a President. What kind of example do you think you are?

Hello Mr President. I am not a fool. I know that you are not reading this. Mac Maharaj or Shabir Shaik or some other corrupt minister is reading this for you, cos you dont know how to read properly. Anyway, many people are asking you for tenders and taxis, cars, jobs, houses, schools, food, medical care etc etc. You have failed to deliver any of these in the proper way. Communities had to go on Strike to get basic service delivery, and yet you have the same old lazy ministers working for you? How can that be? Or is it that you are indeed a puppet as everyone the world over thinks you are? Mac knows what everyone thinks of you, but being an Injun, he is too humble to tell you to your face, but believe me, he is thinking it. He is also using you for his own ends, in fact everyone who comes in contact with you USE you in ways you wouldnt believe possible.

Dear Mr President. I do not have a job since 1995. I have tried everywhere, even your departments, and i dont get anything because all the jobs are filled by relatives and friends of current staff. I don't have a car. Can I have a car? Please also give me a RDP house. I have applied but this too was mismanaged. RDP houses were bought by the rich and sold again to the poor. Everything is corrupt. The last resort for most honest people is to turn to crime. To steal, to kill so as not to get caught and jailed. It is bad in SA for the poor. Everyday you hear and read of how the government is not managing the money, tax is high for those who work, yet we are unhappy. Cost of food is high, but you will not know any of this because YOU dont have to bother about such things. Your family and all your children, your nephews, uncles, brothers, cousins are all on what people call gravy train. I dont think you even know what it is to go to bed hungry. I am disappointed in you President Jacob. Even asking for a handout is like pulling hens teeth, and i know I will not get anything from you. But I can try to go on my nees to ask. Nothing is better than asking. One day, you will find yourself in front of the Big Man, and I wonder what lies you will try to spin then. Maybe I will be sitting on his right hand side watching you make your excuses... One day is ONE day.

You would imagine that the president is a bank or employment agency by some of these letters. Remember he is working with limited funds. These funds are given to him mostly by the 10% who pay taxes. I too would like a new car, I could srart a taxi business around my area where most people are old and have no transport. Whats wrong with dreaming though. Ooops I forgot, the price of petrol is going up, wont be profitable. OK then, how about just giving me some money. You dont expect to be paid back do you? Just raise the taxes. Oh, and the VAT, and how about taxing bread and veggies, they ar getting away scot free.

You are so ignorant. Your vote meant nothing but more money for the corrupt ANC ministers. Our President can be bought, sold, bought again, and re-sold at a discount. He is a puppet for the bigger guns who put him there. Why else do you think all his relatives and friends are BILLIONAIRES today, most of them with overseas bank accounts? He is a poor example for a president and has been from the day he took office. He sleeps with his best friends daughter, gets her pregnant, has a baby just few weeks short of his own lavish marriage to his 6th wife. All your whining, ranting and ravings will fall on deaf ears. Do you know how many unemployed graduates there are, including yourself? Hundred of thousands, and there will be more. Not enough Schools and Universities have been built since the ANC took over, yet all of you want to go and get a degree?

My President, sawubona Let me start by highlighting my way explaining freedom to me .When I heard that we are free, Isaid to my self "thanks God at last we will now get what we deserve, not what we want but what we deserve. Voting to me did not mean that i will get everything on the silver platter no my vote meant that i had a previlege of sending someone i trust to be my ears, my mouth, my eyes, angimele la mina ngingafinyeleli khona, angilwele, to get and live the life i deserve not less and not more!!! My vote allowes me to get the job I deserve AFTER studying HARD for it .I did not expect to be given an office or a company to run just because I voted but because I QUALIFY FOR that position. Im a woman ,turning forty this year,I have A DEGREE BUT Have not worked since finishing in year 2000.Obviously AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT IS WHY we have this new qualification known as unemployed graduates,to qualify for this degree one must study hard and not work,.Mine is simple,i m one of those who came from a very poor background but I had this dream of being someone after a few years of study, went to the Varsity ,studid ,failed to pay the varsity but managed to finish my agriculture degree in 2000.BOOM, NO DEGREE ,because i owed the varsity!!!!!! I had no money!!!!!!, mnaged to raise a loan in 2011 ,PAID the varsity in full,BOOOM!!!!!, I WAS TOLD I can not get my degree ,ihave to wait for 2012 graduations ,IM ANGRY, im stresssed ,but the fact is even if i can kill myself ,i DONT HAVE MY DEGREEE!!!! I know im not the only one but according to me INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER learning are contributing immmensely on suicides, prostitution, drug smugling and trafficing, and child birth rates in SA.AKEKHO UMUNTU ongavele ayohlala iminyaka evarsity with the hope ukuthi after 3-7 years uzobe a better person ,only to find that that dream has just collapsed.NAMI UKUBE ANGSABI NGABE SENGIZAMILE ONE OF THE ABOVE ,UKUZE NGIPHILE IMPILO EMNANDI. Right now ngino 40 years who will hire me ngoba even goverment departments offer internships to 18-35 year olds, mina ngangiyochitha isikhathi nje eTurf, Babu Msholozi akusenani ke bengicela idegree yami for me to hang it on the walls Im sure it can make agood decoration ther, cause right now IVE LOST HOPE THAT i will EVER WORK. Mongameli may I PLEASE SAY THANKYOU TO Babu Nzimande"s hotline NUMBER , it helped me especially uBabu Masuku uyena owangitholela my academic records from the university on the 15th of november 2011.I dont owe the varsity anymore ,but stiil I havent got MY DEGREEEE!!!! TO all the gvt officials ther were you voted by your friends or famiiles only that now you see it is alright to give them positions in higher places even if they did not study ,qualify for? You are my representative so stand for me in my time of need. Babu NZimande "AWAY WITH UNEMPLOYED GRADS,AWAY!!!' Mr president help us I still believe education is the key ukube sonke besifunda sisebenze ngabe ayikho iqualification okuthiwa "iqolo" sithole abantu sebehlola imali yeqolo!!!!!! Ngiyabonga
